I painted this one alla prima in less than 2 hours as my demo of the alla prima method for my recent workshop. I layout my composition, contemplate changes I will be making to my photo image (color, value, temperature, placement of objects, focus and edges), relax and place myself in the moment I took the photo collecting all the emotional information I can conjure up, begin painting and attempt to paint in all the emotion I felt; all in under 2 hours. I love this type of painting. I think of this as an emotional brain dump. I may return in a week or so to correct some smearing and mixing or to increase some contrast, but I don't do much. I paint these as sketches for enlargement onto significantly sized canvas. Excuse the photo, as usual the camera cannot begin to grasp my use of values of different color.
